About
The Kingsville Symphony Orchestra is a joint venture with the City of Kingsville and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The orchestra was formed in 2006 when community and university members came together with a vision of bringing orchestral concerts to Kingsville and the surrounding areas. Through the years, the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra is still going strong and serves as an orchestral training ground for young aspiring musicians pursuing a degree in music education or performance. The group is comprised of students from the School of Music at Texas A&M University-Kingsville as well as professional players from around South Texas.
Outreach
The Kingsville Symphony Orchestra provides a free children's concert every year reaching grade school children from Kingsville and the surrounding area. The concert is conducted by Maestra Colleen Ferguson. Special thanks go to the B.C. and Addie Brookshire Foundation for sponsoring the concert.
In collaboration with Carnegie Hall during the Annual Link Up Outreach Program, the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra encourages children to participate in an interactive concert by playing or singing along. Third through fifth graders play on their recorders with the orchestra! Ours was the first orchestra in South Texas to partner with Carnegie Hall in 2014 to present one of these concerts.
Through these partnerships, the B.C. and Addie Brookshire Foundation, Carnegie Hall, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra aim to support existing and music education programs, strengthen partnerships with local schools, and provide the highest quality curricula, resources, professional development, and programming.
